The only way to avoid it is to seal your brand new D70 in a box and never open it, but that is not a good option either. Cleaning the sensor once in a while is simply part of digital photography with DSLRs. It really isn't all that complicated. The Lithium Niobate filter over most Nikon sensors is somewhat difficult to scratch if you use the right tools and technique. I am around 18 months into digital and 4000 exposures with a D40, D200, D700 and I think I got 2 sensor spots so far that blew of with a blower.
